Perseus

On his journey home from slaying the gorgon Medusa, Perseus, son of Zeus, happened across Andromeda, chained to a rock by the sea, and her parents Cassiopeia and Cepheus. They offered Perseus Andromeda's hand in marriage, and rulership of the kingdom of Joppa as dowry if he were to kill the sea monster Cetus, who was to devour Andromeda as punishment for Cassiopeia boasting that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereids. Perseus dove in and sent the beast to the bottom of the sea. At their wedding, Perseus was surprised by the King’s brother Phineus, who, unbeknownst to Perseus, had been promised Andromeda first, and had arrived with soldiers to take her back by force. Perseus, incensed by this betrayal, fought back, and used the head of the Gorgon to turn his enemies to stone.
